Residential Solar · Why JDR

Solar that's engineered for your home — not configured from a sales script.

The Caribbean residential solar market is full of cookie-cutter packages: pick a panel count, attach to the roof, hope for the best. That approach doesn't survive Puerto Rico's first hurricane season, and it leaves you with a system that's underperforming the day it's commissioned.

Our residential approach starts with your actual electrical bills — 12 months minimum — to build a real load profile. From there, we walk your site, assess roof structure, shading, and orientation, and discuss your priorities: maximum bill offset, critical-load backup, or full off-grid independence. The sizing follows from your needs.

  • Roof or ground-mount feasibility assessment
  • Structural attachment design rated to PR wind code
  • Array sizing to real household consumption
  • Inverter selection (string, microinverter, or hybrid)
  • Battery-ready architecture even if you skip storage initially
  • Net metering applications and LUMA coordination
  • Permits with municipal AHJ and PR agencies
  • Self-performed installation under PE oversight
  • Commissioning, owner training, and as-built package

Every residential system is PE-stamped and built to integrate with battery storage and generator backup — even if you don't add those today, the system is ready when you do.

What's Included

Three core deliverables, one fixed scope.

01

Engineering Package

PE-stamped single-line diagrams, structural calculations for roof attachments, equipment specifications, and the complete construction document set submitted with permits.

02

Permitting & Interconnection

Construction permit, electrical permit, net metering application with LUMA, witness testing coordination, and final use/occupancy approval — handled in-house.

03

Installation & Commissioning

Self-performed mechanical and electrical installation under direct PE oversight, with QA at each milestone. Performance testing, owner training, and full as-built documentation at handoff.

How We Work

From first call to first kilowatt-hour.

Phase 01

Discovery

Free site visit. We review your electrical bills, walk the property, assess roof structure and shading, and discuss your priorities. You receive a no-obligation engineering recommendation and a realistic budget range.

Phase 02

Engineering

PE-stamped design package — single-line, structural attachment plan, equipment specs. We finalize the system sizing with you before any permits are submitted.

Phase 03

Permits & Install

All permits submitted in parallel. Equipment procured, installed by our team under PE oversight. Weekly progress updates throughout — no black-box scheduling.

Phase 04

Commissioning

Utility witness inspection, performance testing, owner walkthrough, and a complete as-built package. Maintenance schedule and warranty documentation included.

Technical Standards

The codes & standards we engineer to.

Electrical Code
NEC Article 690 (Solar PV), 705 (Interconnected Power Sources), and 710 (Stand-Alone Systems) — current edition.
Wind Loading
Puerto Rico Building Code hurricane wind provisions. Roof attachment systems engineered to Category 4+ conditions where exposure requires.
Inverters
UL 1741 grid-interactive certification and IEEE 1547 interconnection compliance. Anti-islanding protection per code.
Battery-Ready
Every system designed so storage can be added later without re-engineering. Hybrid inverter pre-wiring or AC-coupling path documented at design stage.
Utility
Net metering applications, witness test coordination with LUMA Energy, and full interconnection documentation handled by JDR.
Common Questions

FAQ · Residential Solar

Costs vary widely based on system size, roof complexity, whether storage is included, and current equipment prices. After the free site visit we provide a transparent budget range — no surprises later. We'd rather lose a project to honest pricing than win one with a number we can't deliver on.

Only if your system includes battery storage or generator integration. Standard grid-tied PV must shut down during outages (anti-islanding is a code requirement that protects line workers). If full outage coverage is a priority, look at our battery storage service area — but every residential system we install is battery-ready, so you can add storage later.

Typically 8–14 weeks from signed contract to commissioned system. Engineering and installation are the fast parts; permit and utility interconnection cycles drive most of the timeline. You'll have a phase-by-phase schedule at the proposal stage so you know exactly what to expect.

Then we tell you. Sometimes a roof needs replacement first, sometimes ground-mount is the better option, sometimes shading makes the project not worth doing. Honest assessment is part of the discovery phase — we'd rather walk away from a bad fit than install a system that disappoints.

For complex troubleshooting, battery retrofits, or performance audits — yes. For routine cleaning and basic maintenance — we generally focus on systems we engineered, where we already have full as-built documentation. Reach out and we'll let you know honestly whether we're the right fit for your specific situation.
